Hanging On

Last cherry leaves.  Nikon D7000
28th October 2015

The cherries were a disaster again this year.   The pigeons trashed the blossom and the young cherries, then the blackfly did the rest.

The cherries ended up looking so knarly that even the birds would not eat some of them.

The last few leaves are now yellow and ready to drop; at least the colours are interesting.

Roof Garden

Thistle growing in guttering.  Nikon D7000
27th October 2015

It was not my intention to have a roof garden, but it looks like a thistle has taken root up in the guttering around the house.

It suggests there may be a blockage up there and I suppose could be responsible for the water overflowing when it rains.

I had better add it to the end of the list of jobs...

Taking a Shard from Behind

The Shard.  Canon S120
26th October 2015

We popped to London for the day to show some visiting friends the sights.  On our way back from seeing the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, the sun was getting lower in the sky.

On turning around, I noticed that it had just moved behind the Shard and was lighting up the glass of the top few floors.

Shame the aircraft had just passed over and I had not seen the image a few seconds before :(

Nearly Ripe

Apple with raindrops.  Nikon D7000
25th October 2015

It is crumble making day again today so time to gather some more apples up.

I have been using up the windfalls, but with the sun setting, the light on this apple was super.

I have left it their to ripen a little more; hopefully it will hang on long enough until the next crumble, but it is on a low branch so it should not get too bruised if it does fall early.

Everyday objects: The biro pen top

Pen Cap.  Canon S120
24th October 2015

There are many items around the house which we just take for granted.

There are also some which are instantly recognisable and an 'iconic' design.

The pen cap off the humble Bic Biro is one of those designs that everyone worldwide probably recognises.

This model is a relatively modern design; sadly I am old enough to remember the days before they put a hole in the end of the cap to help stop young children from choking (it was a good idea to add the hole).

Over the moon

Hercules flying over the moon.  Canon S120
23rd October 2015

We used to get Herc's flying over the house everyday, but since the nearby airbase shut, they have been a rare sight.

Today not only did I see and hear the familiar aircraft, but it positioned itself perfectly with the moon!

A change of diet, for a change

Pizza.  Canon S120
22nd October 2015

I realised that it has been quite some time since I had partaken in a Pizza eating session.

It was not too many years ago that 'Pizza' meant 'Pepperoni Pizza' to me, with the addition of a few chopped peppers and mushrooms being allowable (oh, and the odd black olive).

With Katie having spent quite some time not eating meat, I got used to eating 'alternative' pizza styles, mainly because Katie was not that fussed about much of the vegetarian options and it was a shame to waste them.

Tonight, it was interesting that actually, the veggie option seemed more appealing than the good traditional Pepperoni.  The veggie version looked like it had been in some horrible accident, but tasted great :)
