Deep into the Arctic...

There is even more snow now in Hammerfest.   It really does feel like being at the top of the world.

The landscape and views are stunning in how savage they look.

Icy Balls: A day in Trømso

17th November 2013

To make the most of my unscheduled stay in Trømso today, I took my camera for a walk.   There was a few inches of snow in the night so much of the City is very black and white.

I did find some Icy balls on one of the boats in the Harbour however.   I felt the same way too....

I eventually got to Hammerfest this evening, it ended up with a brief stay in Hasvik airport (one passenger can fill the place) and then a really rough boat ride.  I arrived in a blizzard but was pleased to see that even in Hammerfest they have Cactii :)

Ice, Ice Runway

Icy runway.  Nikon D7000

I have traveled further North today; far into the Arctic.    The weather is grim and the winds are 45mph+

Our little plane has struggled at times.  On landing on one runway, we promptly slid backwards down the ice, blown by the wind!  The pilot had to restart the engines and hold us steady until the ground crew could chock the wheels to hold us steady in the wind.

We did not get to Hammerfest today, instead I am staying in Trømso for the night.

Night Lights

Well lit Oslo buildings.  Nikon D7000
15th November 2013

I was working all day today and one problem with Oslo at this time of year is that it gets dark quite early. The office building just across from the hotel however seemed determined to resist the dark and turn almost all its lights on.

Electricity is comparatively cheap here I think!

I like chickens.

I Like Sculpture

These sculpted chickens are in Oslo city centre and look in good condition; many of the statues have been adorned by the local pigeons.

Jack is Back....

Frosty leaves.  Nikon D7000
13th November 2013

Jack Frost was out in the garden last night.  He managed to put a thin coat of white on the garden, and chunks of ice on the car windscreen. Grrr.

Today is Alex's birthday.   He did not waste any time this morning in shredding the outer layers of his presents to get at the goodies inside.

I think he is looking forward to the next unwrapping session at Christmas now.
